IMPACT is a strategic R&D project initiated by Coexpair to
support the industrial transition toward thermoplastic composite manufacturing.
Building on its long-standing expertise in solutions for thermoset composites,
Coexpair is expanding its scope to address emerging performance, productivity
and sustainability requirements. Thermoplastic composites reinforced with
continuous fibers offer key advantages (e.g., high toughness, short cycle
times, recyclability and strong compatibility with automated processes) making
them increasingly attractive for aerospace, defense and advanced mobility
applications.

The research aims to develop an industrial Proof-of-Concept for the rapid forming of thermoplastic composites using a multifunctional compression molding press. While thermoplastic composites have historically faced limitations in structural applications due to high melt viscosity and impregnation challenges, recent advances in materials and processing now enable high-performance structural parts with short and repeatable cycle times. Compression molding of thermoplastic composites, also known as matched-die molding, provides a robust pathway toward automated, high-rate production with excellent reproducibility.

IMPACT focuses on demonstrating the industrial
feasibility, reliability and certification readiness of this process by
integrating multiple key technological innovations (e.g., high-temperature
cooling reliability up to 500 °C, high-speed positioning accuracy and
repeatability, CE certification of fast-acting equipment and advanced thermal
regulation using heat-pipe technology). The project follows a rigorous,
incremental validation approach to mitigate technical risks and ensure process
stability.

Through IMPACT, Coexpair strengthens its position as a
technology leader and prepares a future-proof equipment offering for both
thermoplastic and thermoset composites, supporting its customers in the
transition toward high-performance, flexible and sustainable manufacturing
solutions.
